Description

The debate between the use of phonics vs. whole language to teach reading continues. This course guides you through the process of exploring the many Internet resources that can enhance your use of phonics. Research techniques are not limited to websites. The course will lead you through a variety of Internet research resources including newsgroups, chatrooms, mailing lists, blogs, and instant messaging. The newer social networking and community learning systems like MySpace and Facebook are introduced as emerging learning systems. Learn how to use TeacherTube videos, develop a simple web page, use the Internet to dig out plagiarism, and more. The course project is a lesson plan/project that will bring these resources together in a product you can use with your students.

Course Type

A huge library of information is available on the Internet for you to use to research and develop curriculum, but you may find it intimidating or too complicated to become comfortable with this valuable resource tool. These courses have two objectives: to help you learn the various research tools step-by-step from the basics so you become a proficient Internet researcher on any topic, and to explore and discover educationally useful information on the topic you chose to apply to your role as teacher, counselor, or administrator. All courses in this series are three semester hours and available as “On-Line” or “E-Courses.” All materials needed for the course are provided and your instructor is available daily by email or phone.

• This course must be completed within one year from the date of enrollment.
