GEOX9301

The World Geography and Geology Connection

Description

Geography has been a major influence in world history. It has determined where battles are fought, cities are built, land is cultivated and with what crops, the boundaries of racial and cultural groups, etc. Geography has its foundations in geology. What formed those mountains that blocked access to other parts of the world, or made rivers that became roads of commerce, and provided the soils for growing different crops? In the course you can explore both the geology and the geography of the U.S. and the World. It will provide an introduction to the vast resources educators can use to help their students explore and learn. You might call it “armchair exploration.” Your course project, a web quest style lesson, your students can take that armchair exploration while learning about the people, customs, and how geography shapes the way people live around the World.
