Southern writers from 1829 to present are examined in this course.  It attempts to define what makes the Southern writer unique and includes the examination of what makes the South unique:  its people, its customs, and its complex social structure.  Of particular interest is the audio tape of William Faulkner reading from his works, which is the only existing recording of his voice.

*CREDIT: Semester hours of non-degree Professional Development Credit is offered through LMU. Students meeting course syllabus requirements earn a grade on their transcript of CR (credit). Students not meeting requirements earn a grade of NC (no credit). Professional Development Credit is not applicable toward any undergraduate or graduate degree at Loyola Marymount University.
