Dubbed "Urban Alaska," Anchorage is a plethora of history from the meager beginning of a tent city, the anguish and destruction of a massive earthquake, and the dilemma of rapid growth and tourism. Anchorage reflects the stamina of a major railroad, the Iditarod, oil and fishing industries, grizzlies, coal and timber. Though these enterprises and events are not all found in downtown Anchorage, they are an influential part of the town's childhood, maturation and present-day influence. This course is an in-depth study of Alaska's largest city located in this Nation's largest state.
